My Long Coated Chihuahuas

First I want to say, that I have owned both smooth coat , and now the long coat , and I prefer the Long Coat Chihuahuas. Why? Well they seem to be a lot more calm and less nervous, and they (mine) get along with other dogs and children. If they are around children they do not know, they will take their time to get to know them , but once they feel safe, it is all play. Their coats are very easy to manage and they are just beautiful dogs, that comes in many colors and combinations.

My Chihuahuas,  all come from 2 or more generations of Long Coats. I do not  breed a smooth coat to a long coat.  Yes you will get both kinds of coat in this breeding, but I do not want to dilute the long coat gene's. Even though it is a recessive gene. Long Coated Chihuahuas  can take a little time to get their full coats,  sometimes up to 14-24 months of age. The texture of the coat is soft and can be either flat or slightly curly with or without a undercoat. Males have a larger ruff around the neck and more hair than the females do usually. Also sometimes their ears are heavier and have a harder time standing up. Sometimes the heavy ear will flop over on the tips, but they can hold them up at will, and the heavy ear can be upright all the time. Others have the paper thin ears and they have no trouble standing up. I have asked other breeders of long coats about  the heavy ear and no one as of yet has given me a good answer as to why , or where it originated from.. I do my best to breed for the upright ears. The ear that is not upright at a 45 degree angle is a disqualification in the show ring only.     I breed for a average size Chihuahuas a 4 to 5 lb. dog small but yet large enough not to break a leg jumping off the couch.  A toy Chihuahua can be up to 6 lbs. and this is still a very small dog. When you can hold 5 in your lap... that's small. Yes, I will have a very small pup time to time called "tea cup" but I do not breed for this, nor try for this. You can buy a "tea cup" but NO ONE can say for sure that it will stay a tea cup. a Runt can still grow up to be a 5 lb Chihuahua, and then it could stay tiny too.

two 5 lb parents can have 2 - 4 lbs grown pups also  4 lb parents can throw  a 6 lb grown pup. and a 6 lb  dog can give you that so called tea cup puppy.  This is why breeding Chihuahuas is a challenge and that is why I will not breed a to SMALL female. So many breeders are going for the Tiny 2 to 3 lb grown dogs  (tea cups) that they are trying to get more by breeding the  smaller females.  I will not risk their lives. Many times they will try to carry that larger puppy to term, But will need a C section for birthing or the growing pup can KILL the mother before she is ready for birthing (whelping).  There insides are to small to carry to term.  And I will NOT risk a dogs life so the public can have another 2 -3 lb dog.

Also I'm NOT a puppy mill, They do not live in tiny cages. They are in our home and pups are raised in our living room. Yes we have Vinyl  flooring and pups are paper trained. They are use to TV  with all family noises. We LOVE our DOGS and they know it.
